Class War?

Another story that threatens to run and run is that of the ‘Class War’ that Gordon Brown supposedly started at PMQs this week. Commenting on the proposed Tory inheritance tax policy, Brown suggested that it had been ‘ dreamt up on the playing fields of Eton’. What is interesting about this is that it has clearly touched a nerve with senior members of the Shadow Cabinet. The world is a very different place post the banking crisis and I would not be at all surprised if class plays a significant part in the background of the election campaign. In the short-term at least it has given Labour supporters, and Gordon Brown in particular, something to smile about.
